Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Christian Council Damn Government’s Approach to Power Crisis

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Christian Council of Ghana have condemned Government’s lack of viable short term solutions to the country’s current electric power crisis. The religious leaders observed that there is no improvement, for close to three years, in spite of Government’s promises and actions to ameliorate the situation.

Pope Francis The critical observation of Government’s approach to solving the crisis was issued in a statement signed jointly by Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, President of Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, and Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel K. Martey, Chairman of Christian Council of Ghana, and released today May 7, after a joint meeting in Osu, Accra.

“We vehemently condemn the lack of serious practical short-term solutions to the crisis”, the statement said. It goes on to remind Government that the current unfortunate situation is seriously affecting the nation’s economy. “Industries, businesses and other social and economic activities are dying off gradually and systematically”, it stated.

The religious leaders emphasised that a prompt solution is imperative, as waiting for too long will not do the nation any good.
