TV3 is very unhappy with Nana Aba Anamoah over tweets she made recently, especially the viral Old Trafford “selfie”. The sassy news anchor and producer has gotten into trouble with her employer following uproar and ridicule on Twitter and local media over a photo—a supposed selfie she took in the stands at Old Trafford during a football match Manchester United played—which she tweeted last week.
Management of TV3 announced Saturday night, it has pulled the news anchor Nana Aba Anamoah off air over what it calls “alleged online information theft and other unprofessional misrepresentations that have flooded social and other media in the past one-week.”
A press statement signed by the media company’s managing director, Augustus B. Dickson, says the decision was taken after preliminary internal investigations.
“We expect guardians of our brand particularly employees who we entrust to deliver content on air to our viewers, to ascribe to the company’s values wherever they are”, the statement added.
The photo that the news anchor tweeted has turned out to be a montage of two selfies, one of Nana Aba herself, and the other of was taken by another Manchester United fan. The two images were photoshopped to look like a selfie she took at Old Trafford. She used the photo in that manner apparently without a permission from the owner(s) to do so.
That’s not all, she also posted tweets that suggest she was there in flesh and blood and watched fans jump barricades to take selfies with the players. Unfortunately for her, twitter users discovered the not-so-original from the original and took her on.
Nana Aba who is also a producer, presenter on New Day and host of The Diva Show has apologised, on twitter. She said she has learned her lessons. Well, some jokes do turn out to be expensive indeed.
