Afua Asantewaa Aduonum surpasses Guinness World Record for Longest Solo Singing Marathon

Accra’s Akwaaba Village is still buzzing with excitement as Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a broadcast journalist and mother of three, has successfully surpassed the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon. Her remarkable feat began at 12 am on Sunday, December 24, 2024, as she passionately performed a continuous stream of hundreds of Ghanaian songs.

On the notable date of Thursday, December 28, 2023, Afua exceeded the previous record set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who sang for 105 hours in March 2012. Afua has impressively completed 108 hours and remains determined to elevate the bar even higher.

The atmosphere at Akwaaba Village is electric, with fans and dignitaries from diverse backgrounds showering her with praise for her resilience and exceptional talent. Recently, Bhim Nation President, Stonebwoy, visited to offer inspiration and encouragement to Afua.

Throughout this extraordinary singing marathon, various well-wishers have shown their support. Gospel trio Daughters of Glorious Jesus joined Afua in song when she reached the 72-hour mark, expressing admiration for her exceptional delivery. Dressed in vibrant outfits and headgear, they sang one of their hit songs, “Wo Ntaban,” and conveyed their prayers for her strength to endure to the end.

Discussing an upcoming project, the Gospel legends expressed interest in collaborating with Afua on a song after the marathon, showcasing the widespread impact of her musical journey. Wendy Shay, a signee of Rufftown Records, also visited to share words of encouragement, expressing a desire to join Afua on stage if possible.

When asked about Afua’s progress, Wendy Shay remarked, “I wish I could be on the stage to help her sing.” Actor and musician Clemento Suarez shared his unwavering support, emphasizing that regardless of the outcome, Afua had already proven herself a winner. Playfully suggesting that even if she aimed for a 200-hour singing marathon, he vowed continued support.

Having surpassed the existing record, Clemento Suarez encouraged Afua to set a new target that would stand for years as a testament to her remarkable achievement. The Akwaaba Village continues to witness a celebration of Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s incredible musical endurance.
